Solutions – eine fotografische Lösungsgeschichte der Klimakrise
Ein Interview von Jörg Sutter
Jörg Sutter von den DGS-News sprach mit Tina Eichner, Fotografin und Autorin des neuen Buches „Solutions“. Sie lebt in Berlin und ist für das Buchprojekt rund ein Jahr lang mit der Kamera losgezogen und hat Bilder von Menschen und ihren Projekten gemacht, die auf verschiedenen Ebenen zeigen, wie die Klimakrise gelöst werden kann.
Frage: War die Idee zum Buch „Solutions“ eine spontane Idee oder hat sich das über längere Zeit entwickelt?
Eichner: So eine Idee brodelt meist länger im Kopf, das war bei mir auch so. Vor 5 Jahren begann die Idee sich zu manifestieren und im Sommer 2018 habe ich dann konkret angefangen. Solutions habe ich selbst finanziert, also die Reisen und Materialkosten, und mir Zeit genommen, um die Leute und ihre Geschichten zu fotografieren. Es war mir wichtig, die Reisen selbst so nachhaltig wie möglich zu bestreiten, daher reiste ich mit Zügen, Bussen, Fahrgemeinschaften und wenn es möglich war mit Klappfahrrad und Zelt. Ich möchte diese Erfahrung des langsamen Reisens nicht missen, ich habe viele Menschen dabei getroffen und gelernt, die Landschaft anders wahrzunehmen.
Frage: Wie kam das Team für das Buch zusammen, war das eine Gruppe, die sich schon vorher kannte?
Eichner: Ein Teil des Teams kannte ich schon, die meisten Leute habe ich erst während des Projektes kennengelernt, als ich aktiv angefangen habe zu suchen, wer gute Texte dazu schreiben kann. Es war ein Geschenk, mit so engagierten Menschen zusammen zu arbeiten, die sich ehrenamtlich über den Zeitraum von über einem Jahr für das Projekt eingesetzt haben. Da habe ich wirklich Glück gehabt und bin dankbar dafür.
Frage: Was ist denn die Hauptbotschaft von „Solutions“, die Du transportieren möchtest?
Eichner: Die Hauptbotschaft ist, dass die Transformation machbar ist, dass eigentlich schon alles vorhanden ist, was wir brauchen. Das Problem der Klimakrise ist lösbar. Dadurch, dass das Problem so multidimensional ist, kann es aber nicht nur durch technischen Fortschritt gelöst werden, sondern wir müssen auch eine Welt schaffen, die global gerecht ist. Ich wollte mit dem Buch einfach zeigen, wie so eine schönere zukünftige Welt aussehen könnte, die auch mehr Harmonie zwischen den Menschen verspricht. Die nächsten 10 Jahre muss das Thema Klimagerechtigkeit Priorität haben.
Frage: Ich habe es auch als positives Signal gegen die dauernde negative Berichterstattung
über Klimakrise und Umweltzerstörung verstanden, richtig?
Eichner: Ja, ich bin auch der Meinung, dass es viel zu wenig positive Nachrichten gibt. Dabei brauchen wir ein gutes Ziel vor Augen, um die Kräfte zu mobilisieren, die wir für die Transformation brauchen. Ich will mit dem Buch Menschen motivieren sich zu engagieren, denn gemeinsam können wir etwas bewegen. Motivation und Vorbilder sind hier wirklich wichtig. Wir brauchen natürlich auch politische Änderungen, dafür brauchen wir Druck von der Straße. Ich will auch deutlich machen, dass eine Umstellung nicht automatisch Verzicht bedeutet. Es wird, ja muss sich einiges ändern. Aber das kann ja auch positiv sein und viel mehr Lebensqualität für alle bieten.
Frage: Das Buch zeigt ganz unterschiedliche Themenbereiche, von Landwirtschaft über Energie bis zu Konsum und sozialem Wandel. Warum war Dir das wichtig, diese ganze Bandbreite darzustellen?
Eichner: Ich habe nach Antworten gesucht und dabei festgestellt, wie mehrdimensional das Problem der Klimakrise ist, wie sehr alles miteinander verzahnt ist. Dafür braucht man einen umfassenden Überblick. Wir haben jedoch nicht alle Themen einbezogen, man könnte noch viel mehr machen. Um die Zusammenhänge zu verstehen, war es mir wichtig, viele Bereiche darzustellen. Weil es eben nicht DIE eine einfache Lösung gibt, entstand schlussendlich die Buchform, denn das Projekt wurde immer größer.
Frage: Warum ist da ein Fotobuch draus geworden?
Eichner: Unser Fotobuch besteht zu zwei Dritteln aus Bildern und einem Drittel Text. Es braucht den Text, um die fotografierten Beispiele zu erklären, damit man auch die Funktion versteht, zum Beispiel bei einer Schilfkläranlage. Das kann ein Foto vom Schilf allein nicht leisten. Es sind einzelne, charmante Geschichten, die durch die Bilder anschaulich und erlebbar werden. Ich glaube, dass ich damit mehr Menschen erreiche, als wenn ich nur mit Texten arbeite. Die Betrachter:innen können lesen und sehen, wie alles zusammenhängt.
Frage: Wie lange wars Du mit Deiner Kamera für das Projekt unterwegs?
Eichner: Zweieinhalb Jahre, davon zwei Jahre intensiv mit durchschnittlich zwei Terminen pro Monat für die Fotos. Durch das langsame Reisen musste ich dafür ja auch ein wenig mehr Zeit einplanen. Und dann ungefähr ein Jahr, in dem wir uns auf die Texte konzentriert haben, aber auch Verlagsfindung und Crowdfunding haben viel Zeit in Anspruch genommen.
Frage: Wie kam denn die Auswahl der beschriebenen Projekte zustande?
Eichner: Von manchen Sachen hatte ich vorher schon gehört, von vielen habe ich aus den Medien wie einem Podcast des Deutschlandfunks erfahren. Ich habe auch recherchiert und Menschen angeschrieben und ihnen die Idee skizziert. Die Leute, die sich für den Umweltschutz einsetzen, sind meist stolz darauf und möchten anderen Menschen ebenfalls zu mehr Nachhaltigkeit verhelfen. Viele Menschen, die ich besucht habe, haben mir von anderen Projekten erzählt, Kontakte vermittelt und irgendwann wurde das zum Selbstläufer.
Frage: Woher kam die Idee, dieses Projekt über Crowd-Funding zu finanzieren?
Eichner: Das war relativ schnell klar, denn das ist Gang und Gäbe in der Verlagswelt. Erstautoren müssen für ihr Werk oft selbst aufkommen, die Verlage gehen schon lange auf Nummer sicher und verlagern die Verantwortung auf die Autor:innen ab. Über das Crowd-Funding weiß der Verlag auch gleichzeitig, ob genug Interesse an dem Thema oder Projekt vorhanden ist. Für dich als Autor wird durch das Crowd-Funding das Netzwerk größer, viel mehr Menschen werden auf das Buch aufmerksam. Es war aber mitten in der Corona-Zeit schon schwerer als gedacht, das Geld zusammenzubekommen.
Frage: Jetzt steht das Buch kurz vor der Veröffentlichung. Bist Du aufgeregt?
Eichner: Wenn das mit dem Crowd-Funding nicht geklappt hätte, wäre das Buch nicht herausgekommen, daher bin ich erleichtert und überglücklich das wir es geschafft haben. Zum Ende haben wir dann nochmal alles aktualisiert, aktuelle Bezüge und Zahlen in die Texte reingenommen und die Farben für den Druck vorbereitet, da merkte man dann schon, dass die Aufregung steigt. Ich bin sehr gespannt, das Buch in den Händen zu halten und zu sehen, ob die Farben nun so geworden sind, wie ich das wollte. Ich freue mich total darauf, am meisten interessieren mich die Reaktionen der Menschen darauf.
Frage: Die Bilder entstanden sicherlich vor Corona, oder? Hat die Pandemie das Projekt verzögert?
Eichner: Corona war Bremse und Beschleuniger gleichzeitig. Ich war vor ungefähr einem Jahr fertig mit Fotografieren, nur die letzten Bilder entstanden noch während der Pandemie. Für die Verschriftlichung der Texte war es ein Glück für mich, dass ich dann viel Zeit hatte. Wir haben das Buch zweisprachig in Deutsch und Englisch geschrieben, da war auch ein Englisch Muttersprachler beteiligt und es gab viele Korrekturdurchläufe. Für die Präsentation jetzt ist es natürlich wieder schwerer, viele Klimaveranstaltungen finden online statt und wir wollten auch zum Beispiel auf Musikfestivals nachhaltige Ausstellungen bauen, davon sind viele leider abgesagt worden. Aber ich lasse mir auch dazu was einfallen, da werden wir andere kreative Formen finden, um möglichst viele Menschen zu erreichen.
Frage: Und was kommt als nächstes? Hast Du schon eine Idee für ein Folgeprojekt?
Eichner: Jetzt möchte ich erst einmal auch im direkten Kontakt mit den Menschen erfahren, wie das Buch ankommt. Das wird der Lohn für die ganze Arbeit sein, da freue ich mich sehr drauf. Aber ich habe verschiedene Ideen, ich werde auf jeden Fall im Umwelt- und Sozialbereich bleiben. Wie schnell ich das nächste Projekt starten kann, hängt auch von den finanziellen Möglichkeiten ab. Jetzt ist erst einmal Solutions dran, das braucht jetzt viel Aufmerksamkeit damit möglichst viele Menschen davon erfahren und motiviert werden die Zukunft aktiv mitzugestalten.
