Wandelt sich die IAA?
In vier Wochen öffnet in Frankfurt wieder die internationale Automesse IAA ihre Tore. Aussteller und Veranstalter müssen in diesem Jahr zeigen, ob sie Glaubwürdigkeit im Kampf gegen den Klimawandel vermitteln können - Skepsis ist angebracht.
Die Frankfurter Automesse war in den vergangenen Jahren im zwei-Jahres-Takt immer die Hochglanz-Veranstaltung der Autoindustrie, hauptsächlich der deutschen Autoindustrie. 2017 wurden unter dem Motto „Zukunft erleben“ Themen wie Digitalisierung, Urbanisierung und Elektromobilität als Schwerpunkte genannt, vielfach standen jedoch an den Ständen der Aussteller die Hochglanz-SUVs in vorderster Reihe. Spritverbrauch und CO2-Werte wurde bei ausgestellten Modellen zum Teil gar nicht erwähnt. Damals war die Sonderschau „New Mobility World“ in der Fläche kaum größer als die Motorenpräsentation des Daimler-Konzerns allein in seiner Messehalle. Doch war schon 2017 das Selbstbewusstsein der Branche aufgrund des Dieselskandals etwas angekratzt.
Die Nachfrage nach SUVs ist heute ungebrochen, fast jeder dritte Neu-PKW in Deutschland ist ein SUV oder Geländewagen. Kein Wunder, schaut man sich die Autoanzeigen der Autohersteller und Autohäuser in den Tageszeitungen an: Dort kommt Elektromobilität kaum vor, die SUVs sind dauerpräsent. Dabei passen diese so gar nicht zur Verkehrswende: Sie sind zu spritdurstig und zu groß für den begrenzten Verkehrsraum vor allem in den Städten.
In diesem Jahr steht die IAA nun unter dem Motto „Driving tomorrow“, die Veranstaltung wird als „internationale Plattform für die Mobilitätswende“ beworben. Ob sie diesen Anspruch einlösen kann und auch die Austeller das mitmachen? In der Bewerbung der Ausstellung wirbt der Verband der Automobilindustrie e. V. (VDA): „Erleben Sie hautnah neueste Technologien, digitale Lösungen und die nächste Generation von Coupés, Kombis, SUVs, Geländewagen und Supersportwagen. Aha. Und weiter: „Stets die nächste Kurve im Blick haben, die Kraft des Motors und den Rausch der Geschwindigkeit spüren – Autos ermöglichen ein sinnliches Erlebnis“. Alles klar!
Der Messebesucher muss zur Kenntnis nehmen, dass sich in diesem Jahr viele namhaften Hersteller nicht auf der IAA präsentieren werden: Gerade Hersteller mit elektrischen Antriebskonzepten wie Nissan, aber auch Peugeot und Citroen haben abgesagt, Volvo und auch Tesla werden nicht vertreten sein. Auch Toyota als Hybrid- und Wasserstoff-Pionier zeigt sich nicht. Gründe sind die Verlagerung der Informationen weg von Messen hin zu sozialen Medien - die Meinungen von Bloggern und Influencern zählen inzwischen oft mehr als der eigene Blick - und die Verlagerung von Messeauftritten der Autohersteller hin zu den Elektronikmessen wie der CES in Las Vegas.
Wo bleibt dann die neue Mobilität? Erstmals gibt es auf der IAA auch einen Openair-Parcours für E-Bikes. Und „zudem steht auch eine Auswahl an E-Scootern bereit“. Na das klingt ja nach überzeugendem Fahrspaß der neuen Mobilitätslösungen. „Wer es höher, weiter, aufregender will, der kommt mit dem IAA Offroad Parcours für SUVs und Jeeps voll auf seine Kosten“. Jetzt ist der Moment, den Browser mit iaa.de zu schließen und die Erwartungen für den Messebesuch zu relativieren. Noch kurz das Stichwort „Klimaschutz“ in die Suchfunktion der Messe eingegeben – keine Treffer zur IAA 2019!
Es verwundert daher nicht, dass es schon etliche Ankündigungen für größere Protestaktionen rund um die Messe gibt – Sensibilität sieht eben anders aus. 38 Organisationen haben ihre Unterstützung des Protestwochenendes angekündigt. Attac plant am 13.09. eine Abendveranstaltung, um gemeinsam mit anderen Gruppen die Durchsetzung der Verkehrswende zu diskutieren. Am 14.9. wird es eine Demo und Fahrrad-Sternfahrt zur IAA geben, für die eigens auch Autobahnteilstücke gesperrt werden. Für den besucherstarken Sonntag (15.09.) ist eine Blockadeaktion der Messe geplant. Ein Gesprächsangebot des VDA an die Organisatoren der Blockade wurde ausgeschlagen: „Wir sehen keine Grundlage für ein Gespräch mit dem VDA, da dieser für ein klimaschädliches Verkehrssystem steht“, so eine Sprecherin der Organisatoren gegenüber der Zeitung Welt. Andere Organisationen wie der Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club (ADFC), der Bund für Umwelt- und Naturschutz (BUND), Greenpeace und die Deutsche Umwelthilfe sind dagegen prinzipiell gesprächsbereit.
Man kann gespannt sein, was auf den Messeständen zu sehen sein wird und wie auch der Veranstalter VDA mit den Protesten der Verkehrswende-Befürworter umgehen wird.
